Swami Vivekananda, the great man who gave Indian culture global recognition, was born on January 12, 1863 at 6:33:33, 6 minutes before sunrise. The world-conquering son of Bhuvaneshwari Devi was welcomed with mangal dhvani by playing mangal conch. Mother India also became proud of the birth of such a great Vibhuti.
The appearance and appearance of the child was very much like that of his ascetic father Durgadas. The family expressed their desire to name the child Durgadas, but based on the dream seen by the mother, the child was named Vireshwar. Pyaar se people used to call by saying ‘Bile’. According to Hindu tradition, children have two names, one is Rashi’s and the other is a common name, so on the auspicious occasion of eating food, the child’s name was named Narendra Nath.
Narendra’s intellect was sharp from childhood. Narendra was very naughty as a child. Fear, reprimand or threat had no effect on him. So Mother Bhuvaneshwari Devi thought of a wonderful solution, when Narendra’s rude behavior increased, she would pour water on him saying Shiva-Shiva. Child Narendra becomes very calm. There is no doubt that the child Narendra was a form of Shiva.
Narendra enjoyed listening to the stories of Maa Ke Muhan Se Ramayana – Mahabharata. As a child, Narendra Nath loved to ride on the train. When someone asks what will you become when you grow up, you innocently say that you will become a coach.
Vishwanath Dutt, a father who believed in western civilization, wanted to teach his son English to join the western civilization. But destiny had incarnated the child for some special purpose.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that if anyone can be credited with making Indian culture globally recognized, it is Swami Vivekananda. Narendra had special interest in exercise, wrestling, cricket etc. Sometimes also participate in jokes with friends. General Assembly College President William Hastie said that –
Narendranath is a great student of philosophy. All the universities in Germany and England do not have a brilliant student like Narendranath.
Whatever is great in Narendra’s character is the result of the education of his well-educated and thoughtful mother. From his childhood, he had a desire to reach God. Hearing Descartes’ anism, Darwin’s evolution, Spencer’s monotheism, Narendranath was anxious to find the truth.
To fulfill this purpose, he went to Brahmo Samaj, but his mind did not calm down there. Hearing the praise of Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Narendra approached him for the purpose of reasoning with him, but was impressed by his ideas and accepted him as his guru. By the grace of Paramahasam, he had self-realization. Narendra was the foremost of Paramhansa’s beloved disciples. At the age of 25, Narendra took sanyas wearing a garb and set out on a world tour.
In 1893, he went to the Chicago World Council of Religion as India’s representative, but at that time Indians were looked down upon in Europe. But who has stopped the rising sun, Swamiji got an opportunity to speak despite the opposition of the people through the efforts of a professor.
Swami Ji addressed the audience as “Sisters and Brothers of America”. Hearing these words from the mouth of Swamiji, he was welcomed with the sound of Kartal Dhvani. The listeners remained enthralled by his mantras, not knowing when the appointed time had passed. On the request of President Gibbons, Swamiji started speaking further and spoke for more than 20 minutes. Overwhelmed by him, thousands of people became his disciples. It used to be that whenever there was a noise in the meeting, they were enticed to listen to Swamiji’s speech and the whole crowd calmed down. By his explanation, Swami ji proved that Hindu religion is also superior, it has the ability to include all religions. This wonderful saint spread the flag of Indian civilization across the seven seas.
Swami ji was not only a saint but also a patriot, orator, thinker, writer and lover of humanity. In 1899, a terrible plague broke out in Kolkata, despite being unwell, Swami ji set an example of humanity by helping the people affected by the epidemic with his heart and money. Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission on May 1, 1897. The Ramakrishna Mission considers service and philanthropy to others as Karma Yoga, which is an important principle revered in Hinduism.
The wonderful works done by Swami Ji in his short life span of 39 years will continue to guide the generations to come. On July 4, 1902, Swamiji’s supernatural body merged into the Divine.
